One of Miami's oldest neighborhoods, named with the Seminole word for alligator — five square miles that have worked for a century and a half, and still do.
When Wynwood's galleries began giving way to development, the collections moved here. The Rubell Museum opened in 2019 inside a converted warehouse — thirty-six galleries, a research library, and Leku in the courtyard. Superblue sits across the street with fifty thousand square feet of immersive work, and El Espacio 23 holds the Pérez collection a short distance away.
The stretch along NW 17th Avenue earned the name in 2003 and still carries it. Dominican and Central American families have shaped the neighborhood's food for decades — pastelitos and croquetas from the ventanitas, seafood counters, bakeries that open early and are busy by seven.
Miami's largest open-air food distribution center operates here, supplying supermarkets and bodegas across the county. Hometown BBQ opened on a corner of it in 2019 and has since been recognized by the Michelin Guide.
Downtown sits east, Wynwood north-east, the Health District immediately south. Two Metrorail stations serve the neighborhood, SR-836 and I-95 are both minutes away, and the airport is a short drive west. Little Havana is south, and the beach is under half an hour across the causeways.

Costa Calma sits between two of Miami's busiest working districts. The Health District and Civic Center medical campus are close by, the Wynwood arts district is a short drive east, and Downtown is barely further.
SR-836 and I-95 are both easily reached, Metrorail connects north and south, and the everyday things — groceries, pharmacies, clinics and schools — are already in the neighborhood rather than a drive away.
